Canstruction

Canstruction is a spectacular community service national design competition benefiting millions of hungry people nationwide. It is a non-profit foundation of the Society of Design Administration (SDA) and is sponsored in partnership with the American Institute of Architects. Teams of architects and other design professionals build enormous (800 cubic feet) structures made entirely out of canned foods. At the conclusion of the event, all the food is donated to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Canstruction History 2003 was Reno's first competition and we raised 21,500 pounds of food for our Community Partner, the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. In 2004 we raised 18,300 pounds and in 2005 we raised 20,500. In 2006, the event was our largest ever as 18 teams competed and raised 40,000 cans of food! Our competition is unique, in that we encourage student teams with designer mentors to assist. Funds are available to assist with can purchases for student teams.
